Interview with Linda Conyers

I interviewed my friend Linda Conyers. She is a wonderful woman who I met at church. She is an artist. Her passion is to make beautiful paintings. I asked Linda about communication because I love to talk to her. Her words inspire me.

Taken by Matt Conyers (Linda's son)

Paula: What are the first thoughts that come to your mind when you listen to the word communication?

Linda: Understanding, sharing ideas without judging, listening to each other.

Paula: What do you think is the best way to communicate?

Linda: Face to face instead of texting or emailing. Using body language for me is the best way. For example, I have a close friend from China. When we talk by phone, I feel that we are not talking because we are not seeing each other. However, when we are face to face, I can see her and understand her feelings more clearly.

Paula: How do you communicate your emotions?

Linda:  Using facial expressions, touching, using eye contact. The other day I was listening to a radio program about the increase of stress nowadays because the majority of people talk by phone instead of talking in person. According to some study, if people do not use body language or face each other, they feel stress.

Paula: What are the characteristics that a journalist should have?

Linda: Integrity, wisdom, and values. I think the most important characteristic is journalists use words that do not hurt others.

Paula: What is the best way that journalists can help the community?

Linda: Journalists should remember that children are watching TV. Sometimes journalist use words very descriptive than affect our children who are at home. Also, they have to help the community making reports to find a possible solution to some issue.  They have to help without limits, but reporting with limits.

I don’t know if this last phrase that Linda said was just a coincidence, but it is related with the title of my blog. AWESOME!  And how do you communicate your emotions?

Part 2- Nancy Loo

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Northern California, she is a reporter and fill-in anchor for WGN-TV. I really love her job because she shows me the real meaning of being a journalist.

Nancy Loo was an anchor/reporter at Fox Chicago News. Do you want to know some unbelievable story about Nancy Loo? Before moving to Chicago, she was an anchor/reporter for WABC-TV in New York where she earned three Emmy Award nominations and her team won the Emmy for "Best Morning Newscast" for a show in which she kept presenting the news through labor contractions.
